Smart Links User Guide<>

Adding a Smart Link to a specific form in the Classic Interface — example

Linking to the Classic Interface

You can create a Smart Link which takes you directly to a particular form in the Classic Interface. For example, you could provide a link which takes you from the list of courses shown on the COURSES tab straight to the Classic Interface Rapid Enrolment screen.

Preparation before you create a Smart Link to the Classic Interface

In order to create a Smart Link to a form in the Classic Interface you will need:

the identifier of the form you wish to link to

» See To find the identifier of the form you wish to link to, below.

to add an entry to the forms configuration file on your application server

» See To add an entry to the forms configuration file on your application server, below.

The following parameters (Set-up > Parameters) must be set correctly:

FORMS.INTEGRATION_ENABLED must be set to TRUE

FORMS.LAUNCH_URL must be set to the correct URL for the Forms server (you may need to check the correct address with CampusIT support if this is not set)

FORMS.SSO_ENABLED must be set to TRUE

To find the identifier of the form you wish to link to

1Open the form in Classic Interface and click the ? (help) button in the toolbar.

The Help About dialog box opens.

2Note down the form identifier.

In the screenshot above the identifier is ‘SHORT_COURSE’.

To add an entry to the forms configuration file on your application server

1Connect to your application server and navigate to your Classic Interface domain folder.

In the screenshot below this folder is named ClassicDomain. Your folder may have a different name however (depending on how you set up Quercus).

2Navigate to the config\fmwconfig\servers\WLS_FORMS\applications\formsapp_11.1.1\config folder (or equivalent if your version of Forms is different).

Here you should see the formsweb.cfg file. This file holds the various configuration settings required to launch forms in specific contexts (e.g. standalone, within a web browser).

3Open the file and add an entry at the end which will provide a launcher for the form you want to run.

To create the entry, copy the text below, substituting your own values for the highlighted text.

[qp8_enrolment]
baseHTML=webutilbase.htm
baseHTMLjpi=webutiljpi.htm
webutilArchive=frmwebutil.jar
envfile=qdev.env
PageTitle=QuercusPlus 8.0 Student Administration System
Form=SHORT_COURSE.fmx
usesdi=yes
colorscheme=blue
colorscheme=blue
separateframe=false
width=900
height=700
splashScreen=http:/cit-dev11g-as2/forms/html/qp_splash.gif
logo=http://cit-dev11g-as2/forms/html/1px.gif

The modified file should look something like this.

Now you’ve done this you’re ready to add the Smart Link.

Adding the Smart Link

1Go to the Control Centre Set-up and choose the Smart Links option.

2In the Tasks panel choose the Create New Link.

The Create a Smart Link screen opens.

3Create the Smart Link using the following settings in the URL field but substituting your own settings for the highlighted text.

f?p=QUERCUS:CLASSIC:&APP_SESSION.::::P20_CONFIG,P20_TITLE:qp8_enrolment,Rapid Enrolment

In the example above, qp8_enrolment is the name of the set of configuration parameters you added in step 3 of To add an entry to the forms configuration file on your application server, above:

The completed link is shown below.

Note that the screen on which the link appears is determined by the setting of the Family field. See Smart Links on application pages.

4Finally, you can go to the screen on which the link appears and check that it is functioning as expected.
