LiveLink Case Study<>

Create the WordPress pages for the courses

Prerequisites

Before you can set up the page you must:

create a page template that allows you to enter the course instance code

» See Adding a custom field to the WordPress template.

add the PHP listed in the previous chapter to the sidebar associated with the template

» See Adding a PHP script to the WordPress template.

Once you have performed these operations you can set up course pages which will link to the Apply Online service.

To add a course with a link to the Apply Online service

1In the Admin area select Add New Page and give the page the title of the course.

2In the Page Attributes box select the template you associated with the Course Instance Code field in step 3 of Adding a custom field to the WordPress templateand click Save Draft. This associates the page with the template, causing the Course Instance Code field to appear.

3Enter details of the course in the main text editing area.

4In the Sidebar Layout Settings area select the sidebar which contains the PHP code (see step 2 of Adding a PHP script to the WordPress template).

5Enter the course instance code in the Course Instance Code field. This must be the same as the value in the courseCode attribute within the LiveLink XML feed.

6In the Page Attributes box (to the right of the main text editing area) set the Parent to Undergraduate or Postgraduate Courses (this ensures that the course appears in the correct menu).

7Finally click Publish.

If the course code is found in the LiveLink feed you will see the Apply Online button which will link to the live service.

If the course code is not found in the LiveLink feed you will see a More Information button which will take you to an alternative page.
