ILR Returns User Guide<>

Setting defaults

Default types

There are two types of defaults:

Leaner defaults which are applied to all new learner records and relate to the student’s personal profile

Learner aim defaults which are applied to the module-level Learning Aims

If you set or change default settings they are not applied to the student’s ILR record until you propagate them. Propagation will apply the new default values to existing fields according to rules you select at the time of propagation. For example, you can choose to propagate the values to all existing fields — even ones which already contain data — or you can propagate the values only to empty fields or to specific fields.

Learner defaults

You can modify learner default settings via the Learner Defaults screen. This process is described below.

To modify learner defaults

1In Quercus Menu, click the ILR Returns smart link.

The ILR Returns screen opens showing the list of ILR returns which have been created.

2 In the top bar click Defaults.

3The Learner Defaults values are displayed.

These values provide the defaults for the fields on the Learner Details screen.

To propagate the learner defaults

1Click the Propagate Defaults button in the Tasks List area.

The Propagate Learner Defaults screen opens.

2Select the fields you wish to propagate.

3Click the Propagate button.

Warning: any existing values in the learner records will be overwritten by the propagated values unless you check Update only empty fields.

Learning Aim defaults

Because you set Learning Aim defaults for individual modules, you access the Learning Aims Defaults screen from the Modules screen. This is described below.

To modify Learning Aim defaults for a module

1In Quercus Menu top-bar select the Modules tab and search for a module.

2Click the View button to see the module details.

4Click the ILR Defaults smart link in the right-hand menu area.

The Learning Aim Defaults screen opens.

Note: the Module Instance Maintenance Smart Link on the right side of the screen, allows you to go back to the Module screen.

To propagate the Learning Aim defaults

1In the Tasks List click Propagate Defaults.

The Propagate Defaults screen opens.

2Choose the appropriate Propagation options by clicking the checkboxes.

The Propagate button appears.

Click the button to propagate the values.

3You can choose from the following options:

All fields / Custom fields

choose whether you wish to propagate the settings of all fields or just those from a custom list of fields (this appears after you check the box)

Learning Aim / HE

choose whether you wish to propagate the Learning Aim fields, the HE related fields or both sets of fields

Propagate to Learner/Student

choose whether you wish to propagate the fields not only to the Course Programme Detail, but also to the Learning Aim level

Update only empty fields

choose whether you wish to update only the fields that are empty in the database to avoid overwriting fields that are already populated

Warning: any existing values in the learner records will be overwritten by the propagated values unless you check Update only empty fields.
