HESA KIS Returns User Guide<>

Two ways to enter assessment methods and learning and teaching methods

Summary

You can enter details of the KIS assessment methods and learning and teaching methods in two ways:

at the course stage level

simply enter the figures for the course stage as a whole

use this method if you already know the information and you don’t want to drill down and enter module‑level percentages

at the module level

enter the figures on a module by module basis and then let the system calculate the course-level figures by aggregating the information from the different module

use this method if:

you have complex course structures which share common modules

or

you know the module-level percentages and want the system to calculate the course-level percentages by aggregating the module-level figures

The two methods are described below.

At course stage level

To enter percentages at course stage level

1Locate the course using the Search facilities.

2Click the KIS button (e.g. ) to open the KIS data entry screen.

3Click the Course Stage tab.

4Add the appropriate course stage if it does not already exist.

5Click the Edit button and enter the percentages.

Note that in the above example both the Assessment Method Indicator and the Learning and Teaching Method indicator have been set to ‘E’ (Based on institutional estimates).

At module level

To calculate course figures based on the percentages at module level

Note: this is a summary of the procedure: more details are given under Calculating assessment and learning and teaching method percentages.
