Setting up modules

Setting up ‘traditional’ single-session module instances

Note: When you are setting up a single-session module instance you must set the session type before you save the module. Once you have assigned a session type to a module it cannot be changed.

To set up a single-session module instance

1In the Quercus Classic Interface navigate to the Module Maintenance screen of the appropriate course (Course Manager > Module Maintenance > View/Maintain).

2On the first empty row, click in the Year field and enter the academic session in which the module will run.

3Click the Open Record icon.

The Module Instance Detail screen opens.

4Choose Single-session instance from the Sessional list.

Note: you must do this before you save the module.

5Enter other details you want to capture such as the Start and End dates and the number of Credits.

6Click the Save icon in the toolbar or press F10 to save the record.

Click Previous to return to the list of module instances.

Setting up courses

Setting up courses based on academic sessions (‘traditional’ courses)

To manually set up a course instance linked to a single academic session

1In the Quercus Classic Interface navigate to the Course Maintenance screen of the appropriate course (Course Manager > Course Maintenance > View/Maintain).

2Select the course for which you want to set up the course instance.

3Click the Instances button.

A list of instances associated with the course opens.

4Set the Session Type field in the filter area to Single-session instance.

The year (academic session) picker appears in the filter area.

5Select the correct year in the session picker. For example if you were creating a course for the 2012 session, set the picker to 2012. You must do this before you create the course instance — it cannot be changed after the instance is created.

6Click in the Code field and enter a code for the new instance.

7Enter any other details you wish to add at this stage, such as the start and end date, the course location and the course structure.

8Click the Save icon in the toolbar or press F10 to save the record.

To automatically create a course instance linked to an academic session by copying a similar instance

1Follow steps 1 to 5 of the To manually set up a course instance linked to a single academic session procedure (above).

2Click in the Code field of the instance you want to copy.

3Click the Create Like button.

A dialog appears asking you if you wish to continue.

4Click OK.

A new course instance is created with the code id_X where id stands for the identifying code of the original course instance. ‘_X’ is a placeholder which you can replace with a suitable identifier. All other details of the course will be copied including the Year, Start and End Dates and the course structure.
