Flexible Curriculum User’s Guide<>

Before you set up a curriculum

Decide upon the types of course you want to set up

Before you set up courses and modules, decide whether or not you wish to implement either:

single-session courses based upon the ‘traditional’ curriculum model

or

a mixture of cross-sessional and single-session courses

Understand how you will configure the application to reflect your choices

Curriculum based on single session courses

If you wish to implement only single-session courses and modules then there are no significant changes between Quercus 8 and Quercus 2.7.

» For more information about setting up a single-session curriculum see Setting up ‘traditional’ single-session module instanceshere.

‘Mixed’ (cross-sessional and single-session courses) curriculum

If you wish to implement a mixture of cross-sessional and single-session courses be aware:

The set up of single-session courses and modules is similar to preceding (2.7+) versions of Quercus (see Setting up ‘traditional’ single-session module instanceshere). There are however some changes to the layout of the Module Maintenance screen (see here).

The set up of cross-sessional modules follows the procedures described in Setting up cross-sessional modules and courses.

Prior to setting up cross-sessional courses you should decide:

whether a given module will be available once during the course, or whether there will be multiple opportunities to take it.

if there are multiple opportunities, how many times a module will be made available and at what time intervals it will reoccur
