Exam Boards and Assessments<>

Introduction

Scope

This user guide describes the new Exam Board and Assessments module which is available in Quercus 8.3.0.

What is the Exam Board and Assessments module?

The Exam Boards and Assessment module allows you to:

record the assessment results for students via the results entry process

to review and ratify student grades via the exam board process

Results entry

Results entry is the process of recording the students’ performance in the various assessments associated with a course. Assessments may include exams, essays, dissertations, vivas etc.

A student’s performance may be recorded as a graded mark or as a simple pass/fail, depending on the grading scheme associated with course.

The Exam Boards and Assessment module allows authorised staff to perform all tasks associated with the results entry process.

Exam boards

Exam boards are administrative entities which meet to review and ratify student results and grades. The structure of exam boards varies from institution to institution, but, generally, individual results are reviewed at module level by a module board, before the aggregated results are reviewed at course level by a course board. Boards are usually constituted after each stage in the exam calendar (First Sitting, Second Sitting, etc.)

The exam board process usually involves the adjustment of the marks of individual students to correctly reflect their performance.

The Exam Boards and Assessment module allows authorised staff to set up and maintain exam boards and to perform all tasks associated with the exam board process.

Who will use the Exam Board and Assessments Module?

The module will be used by the following individuals:

staff responsible for the entry of assessment results

staff who wish to view an individual student’s results or the overall results for a course or module

staff responsible for the creation and maintenance of exam boards

members of an exam board who are engaged in the review and moderation process

What existing Quercus functionality does this module replace

The Exam Board and Assessments Module replaces the Results Entry and Exam Board functions in the Quercus Classic Interface. It also supersedes the Results Entry functionality previously accessible through the Courses and Modules options with Quercus.
